Why I Am Teaching Sensual Jazz.

Sensuality is a part of our wholeness. Often we are taught to hide or feel shame about sensuality. But sensuality is not just about sex. It’s about presence. It’s about learning to listen to your body, feel from the inside out, and move from a place of awareness and connection.

Whenever you’re feeling disconnected; from yourself, from your bodies, from pleasure and play, sensual movement invites us back in. It asks us to soften, to slow down, to soothe, to explore what feels good without judgment.

This isn’t about performing sexy for anyone else. It’s about reclaiming sensuality as your own. Learning to express yourself with confidence. Building comfort in your skin. Finding power in subtlety, in stillness, in curves, breath and flow.

I am teaching this class because I want to connect with my community through what I’m most passionate about - movement that feels good, inspires confidence, and invites deeper self-connection. I also love to choreograph and am excited to workshop some pieces with my students. I’ve learned so much about myself through sensual dance. It’s what got me out of my head and back into my body. It reminded me that movement can be healing, empowering, and joyful.

This is an open-level class. Whether you’re new to dance or more experienced, you are welcome. Yes, you’ll get a workout. We will do some musical theater, hip hop, and lyrical jazz. Yes, it might feel vulnerable. And yes, you might mess up. But that’s all part of the process. It’s a safe space to explore, to challenge yourself, and to grow. Practice makes progress.

There’s so much to learn through sensual movement: how we show up, how we hold ourselves, how we connect to pleasure, vulnerability, grace, and strength.

What comes to mind when you think of sensuality?
